A recent disagreement between ourselves, our fibre service provider Afrihost and their supplier Vumatel have opened a can of worms in the industry.
Vumatel installed fibre to our premises in Randburg from a pole in the street, the cable leading into the property was incorrectly suspended not more than 2,2 metres from the ground. This led to a vehicle obviously damaging the cable on the sidewalk. Afrihost/Vumatel refuses to repair the cable unless we pay for it. (Akhila Susan . Afrihost.com refers). Their technician apparently spoke to our neighbour's Malawian gardener who advised them that a forklift damaged the cable, in West Av, Ferndale. How bizarre?
We, and our legal council, believe that whatever infrastructure is outside the property belongs to Vumatel.
With this precedent being set, will we soon have to pay for City Power/Eskom cables being stolen/damaged anywhere near our properties?
More specific info/evidence is available on request... [email protected]
